Are you preparing for the Civil Service Exam? Here’s a sample Math problem, explained for you step-by-step…
Question: What is 3/4 percent expressed in decimal form?
Answer: 0.0075
Here’s why…
1 percent, expressed in decimal form, is 0.001 (you must move the decimal point two places to the left whenever you see the word percent)
When you don’t see a decimal point (such as in the number 1), we assume it is at the rightmost position.
Therefore, 1 is the same as 1.0
So when we say 1 percent, it’s like saying 1.0 percent.
We move the decimal point two places to the left, so 1.0 percent is the same as 0.001
For example:
88 percent = 0.88
156 percent = 1.56
3/4 in decimal form is 0.75
So, 3/4 percent is the same as 0.75 percent
And because we move the decimal point 2 places to the left whenever we see the word percent…
3/4 percent = 0.75 percent = 0.0075
(NOTE: A lot of people miss the word “percent” so when they see “3/4 percent” all they see is just “3/4” and they automatically think of 0.75)
Good luck when reviewing for the Civil Service exam! Kaya mo ‘yan! :-)
